Vehicle coverage: Toyota, Lexus and Scion vehicles fitted with an ID Code Box, covered by the Abrites Diagnostics for Toyota/Lexus/Scion Online software.
Supported operation:
Synchronising a replacement ID Code Box with the vehicle's Engine Control Unit (or a replacement ECU/HV unit with the existing ID Code Box), so that the immobiliser pair is matched again and the vehicle starts normally.
Synchronisation is required whenever either half of that pair has been exchanged. A vehicle that has lost the pairing typically stores DTC B279986, which is the software's own hint that this procedure is the fix.
When you need this page
| Situation | Run ECU Synchronization? |
|---|---|
| ID Code Box replaced with another unit | Yes |
| Engine Control Unit (ECU) or HV control unit replaced | Yes |
| DTC B279986 stored, engine will not start | Yes |
| Adding or removing keys only | No – use Key Learning |
| Smart system components exchanged | No – use Smart System Synchronization |
The procedure in two parts
- Requirements – connections and power supply to set up before starting.
- Procedure – the steps in the Toyota Online software.
Important notes
- Budget around 40 minutes of uninterrupted time. The synchronisation runs unattended once started.
- A stable external power supply is strongly recommended for the whole session. An interruption partway through leaves the pair unmatched.
- The procedure runs entirely over OBDII – no module removal or bench work is involved.
- Once synchronisation completes, the vehicle should be fully functional again.
