Vehicle coverage: all Toyota and Lexus models up to 2024. ID-Code Box 2021+ reset and adaptation covers immobiliser module replacement across those models; the legacy TN009 functionality is also included and resets ID Code Box units on vehicles up to 2020, with or without an ESL.
Supported operation:
ID Code Box reset is necessary if the smart system, the ECU, or the ESL is replaced. The replacement module has to be paired with the ID Code Box, and for that synchronization a "virgin" or new ID Code Box is needed.
A working key for the vehicle is needed.
Why this matters
Without the ID Code Box reset functionality, replacing any immobiliser-related module in a Toyota would mean swapping the entire immobiliser system — the Smart System, ID Code Box, Engine Control Unit (ECU), and ESL where present. That means extensive disassembly and significant cost in both labour and parts.
With this functionality you can simply reset the ID Code Box and synchronize a used module, integrating it without replacing the other components — saving time and reducing overall cost.
Required equipment
- Abrites AVDI interface
- Abrites OBDII cable (SAE J1962) – CB106
- Abrites CB012 – mandatory (internal LIN-BUS)
- Abrites CB031 – recommended
- A working key for the vehicle
- A stable power supply connected to the vehicle
Working on a replaced Smart System
In the case of a Smart System replacement you will most probably have no working key for the replacement smart system. In that situation you must first execute a key learning procedure, and continue with the ID Code Box reset once a working key is present.
The full sequence
- Connections – internal LIN-BUS wiring with CB012/CB031.
- ID Code Box Reset Procedure – the reset itself.
- Smart System Synchronization – pair with the Smart System.
- ECU Synchronization – pair with the engine control unit (~40 min).
When a virgin ID Code Box is installed in the vehicle, synchronization with the ECU and Smart System is required — steps 3 and 4 are not optional.

Troubleshooting
| Issue | Likely cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Reset cannot start | No working key for the vehicle | Perform key learning first, then repeat the reset |
| Reset not possible for this module | Module variant outside the covered range | Contact support@abrites.com |
| Vehicle will not start after reset | Synchronization not yet performed | Run Smart System Synchronization, then ECU Synchronization |
| No communication during reset | LIN-BUS connection incorrect | Re-check the CB012/CB031 wiring on the Connections page |
